The Shoemakersville Children’s Fair and Parade will celebrate its 75th anniversary on Saturday, June 6, bringing a full day of family activities, food, and entertainment to the community.
Organizers announced that this year’s event will feature the theme “Stars, Stripes & Shoey” in recognition of both local and national history.
The annual parade will begin at 10 a.m. at 8th and Main streets in Shoemakersville. Kyle Lord of Keystone Military Families will serve as grand marshal.
Following the parade, the fair will run from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and conclude with the traditional basket raffle.
According to organizers, the event traces its origins back to 1952, when volunteers first organized a community celebration for local children while raising money for the borough park. The fair and parade have continued annually since then, drawing both current and former residents as well as visitors from surrounding communities.
Activities planned for this year include face painting, sand art, a petting zoo provided by Muller Mountain Farm, and the classic dime pitch game. Fair food offerings will include hamburgers, hot dogs, turkey barbecue, fresh-cut fries, homemade desserts, and ice cream from Mr. Softee.
Entertainment throughout the event will feature Vince Rollins, Culture Shock Dance, and other local performers.
Organizers noted that the event is cash only, though activities and food are designed to remain affordable for families.
Proceeds from the fair support the Shoemakersville Recreation Board, which operates a free summer program for local children that includes weekly visits to the community pool. The recreation board also sponsors community events throughout the year, including Trunk or Treat, the Holiday Decorating Contest, and Christmas in July.
