The St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Apple Festival is back. After a four-year hiatus, the organizers of the annual Apple Festival at the Douglasville church felt it was time to bring back the apple-focused and family-friendly day of fun.
This year’s festival is set for Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 548 Old Swede Road.
The festival ran for 10 years until the pandemic made it impossible to hold the event in 2020. This year’s event will feature many of the favorites the community will remember from previous years: apple pancakes for breakfast, hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch, with new items like Rubens, apple chips, and waffles and ice cream. As always, there will be apple dumplings and apple pie until they sell out.
“People should get there early. The apple dumplings and pie sell out fast,” said Bill Kutz, one of the event organizers.
Also back are moon bounces, games, face painting, and an art bus. Party Animals Express will be there as well. Organizers will sell wristbands for all of the children’s activities for $10 for the first child and $5 for each sibling.
It’s time to dig out the apple recipes, since new this year is an apple-centric baking contest. For more information, please go to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Facebook page.
Also, people are invited to bring their pets to the festival at 9 a.m. for the blessing of the animals by the church’s pastor, Rev. Gregory W. Frey, When discussing why it was important to bring this event back to the community, Kutz said, “we as a church love having it. We wanted to give an opportunity for families to get out and have an enjoyable day.”
