A fresh and comedic take on a beloved fairy tale is set to take the stage at the Miller Center for the Arts. Little Red’s Unusual Day, an operatic adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood, will be performed on February 7 and 8, offering audiences a lively mix of music, humor, and unexpected surprises.
This production is a collaboration between Berks Opera Company, the Miller Center for the Arts, and the Yocum Institute for Arts Education, with support from the Bruce & Renee Dietrich Endowment for the Arts. It cleverly integrates scenes from operas by Jacques Offenbach and Gioachino Rossini, creating a performance that is both engaging and entertaining for all ages.
The story follows Forest Ranger Dudley, who, too shy to invite the widow Hood to the Forest Ranger Ball, leaves an invitation in a basket of flowers. However, when the basket finds its way to Granny—who has an eye for men in uniform—hilarity ensues. Misplaced invitations, surprise kisses, and the presence of a Wolf add to the comedic chaos, ensuring a performance filled with laughter and delightful confusion.
With a combination of operatic brilliance and whimsical storytelling, Little Red’s Unusual Day promises to be an entertaining experience for both opera enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
The show will be performed at the Miller Center for the Arts in Reading, PA, on February 7 at 6:30 p.m. and on February 8 at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Tickets: millercenter.racc.edu/little-red
