High-performance engines and racing excitement will once again fill the hills of Mount Penn as the annual Pagoda Hillclimb returns the weekend of June 21–22.
Part of the Pennsylvania Hillclimb Association (PHA) Championship Series, the event is sanctioned by the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and hosted by the Blue Mountain Region SCCA. Drivers from across several states have already registered to compete on the challenging 1.35-mile course up Duryea Drive.
Reigning champion and course record holder Ron Moreck of Kingston, PA, is set to defend his title. He’ll face off against a competitive field that includes several past winners, all vying to reclaim the title of “King of the Hill.”
The course starts at the intersection of 13th Street Extension and Duryea Drive and finishes just below the historic Pagoda. Racing begins Saturday around 9:30 a.m. and runs until approximately 4 p.m. Sunday’s racing starts at 9 a.m. and concludes around 4 p.m.
Admission to the event is by voluntary donation, with proceeds benefiting Pagoda-Skyline, Inc., the nonprofit dedicated to preserving the Pagoda and Skyline Drive area.
Spectators can take advantage of a free shuttle service operating both days to access various viewing areas along the course, including the Pagoda. Shuttle rides are also donation-based, supporting the Reading Recreation Commission’s Third and Spruce Rec Center.
