A devastating fire broke out on Sunday afternoon, October 6, 2024, at a home located at 486 Oley Road, leaving the house a total loss and claiming the lives of three pets.
The fire, which started at approximately 1:19 p.m., was first reported by a passerby who noticed the house in flames. Moments later, a second call came from the home’s occupants, who were inside the structure and working to evacuate their pets. Due to concerns of entrapment, the incident was quickly upgraded, bringing additional fire crews to the scene.
Firefighters from the Ruscombmanor and Oley Fire Companies were the first to arrive, finding the entire front of the house engulfed in flames. Fortunately, all occupants, along with their dogs, were able to escape safely. Despite their efforts, three cats inside the home did not survive.
The fire escalated to a second alarm, requiring more manpower and resources from neighboring departments. Crews spent nearly five hours battling the blaze, eventually bringing it under control. The home, however, was completely destroyed, with damage estimated to exceed $600,000.
The Pennsylvania State Police Troop L Fire Marshal Unit is currently investigating the cause of the fire. Preliminary findings suggest the fire started on the exterior of the house near a ground-level deck, though the exact cause remains undetermined. Authorities have ruled out criminal activity in connection with the blaze.
No civilians or firefighters were injured in the incident. The investigation into the fire’s origin is ongoing.
