Keystone Villa at Fleetwood celebrated a connection shared across generations, the spirit of Reading Senior High School alumni.
The idea came from Chris Rodriguez, the dining services director and a proud Reading High alumnus, who wanted to honor residents who also graduated from the school.
What started as a simple idea evolved into a meaningful intergenerational experience. Alumni residents, joined by Rodriguez, his 10 classmates from the Class of 1990, and Jessica Di Blasi, the high school principal, toured Reading High, revisiting the hallways, classrooms, and memories that shaped their lives.
The tour was filled with nostalgia and laughter as alumni spanning the Classes of 1945 through 1990 shared their stories. From prom nights and favorite teachers to cheering at basketball games and hanging out at local spots such as A&F Screpesi’s and Yatron’s Ice Cream, each alum reflected on unique experiences while celebrating their shared Red Knight pride.
Residents Mildred Loeper, Class of 1945; Suzy Evans, Class of 1950; Mary Ann Weidner, Class of 1957; Fred Wroble, Class of 1958; John Zuber, Class of 1962; along with Rodriguez, highlighted the rich history and strong community spirit that Reading High continues to inspire.
“This was an incredible experience. The new cafeteria was beautiful, and the front entrance and lockers brought back so many memories,” Weidner said.
Standing in the senior cafe, and overlooking the city, Loeper said the visit brought her back to her childhood. She hadn’t been inside Reading High in 80 years and described her high school years as a marvelous time. She was impressed by the school’s modern and attractive upgrades.
“I would worry about getting to class on time with the long hallways — and now the hallways are longer!” she said.
Keystone Villa at Fleetwood thanked the Class of 1990 for helping make the event possible and for reminding everyone that, no matter where life takes them, Red Knight pride lasts a lifetime.
