Wednesday morning, the Reading Muhlenberg Career and Technology Center (CTC) was thrust into a state of heightened alert after receiving a report of a possible weapon sighting involving a student.
Swift action ensued as the school enacted a lockdown, with local and State Police agencies responding promptly to the incident.
In an email to parents, school officials say no weapon was found, but a student was in possession of used ammunition. The email stated that appropriate disciplinary consequences will be applied per the student code of conduct.
According to the Muhlenberg Township Police Department, the initial dispatch was for a shooting. While officers from the department and several surrounding agencies responded, they received additional information that a shooting had not taken place, but now being reported that an armed intruder had entered the building with a bandoleer of ammunition.
Police say once they arrived, officers immediately entered the building and took the subject into custody. No firearm was located, and the bandoleer of ammunition was discovered to be spent shell casings. They said during the incident, no shots were fired and no one sustained any injuries.
As a precaution, law enforcement personnel worked to clear the premises while the school was on lockdown. Following the search, arrangements were made to safely transport student to their respective sending schools.
