Hope Rescue Mission, a beacon of hope for individuals experiencing homelessness in Berks County, celebrated its 130th Anniversary at their Annual Gala at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Reading. This landmark event brought together supporters, volunteers, and community leaders to honor the Mission’s rich history of service and highlighted its ongoing commitment to those in need.
Founded in 1894, Hope Rescue Mission has long been dedicated to providing a safe haven for men facing homelessness. For over a century, the organization has offered meals, shelter, and spiritual guidance through outreach programs to as many as 250 men daily.
“As we celebrate 130 years of service, we are excited to share our recent achievements and continue to build upon our mission of providing hope and transformation for those in need, said Robert Turchi, CEO of Hope Rescue Mission.
The one-year anniversary was also noted of HopeHouses, which offer permanent supportive housing to guests of the Mission and LightHouse who have successfully progressed through on-site residential programs.
Recognition was given to an outstanding corporate partner, with the prestigious David H. Roland Award being presented by David C. Roland to Penske Corporation and the Penske associates for their contributions and dedication. Accepting the award on behalf of Penske were Brian Hard, CEO Penske Trucking Solutions and Art, President Penske Truck Leasing.
They also celebrated the one-year anniversary of the expansion of services to women and children at the LightHouse Women & Children’s Center, which opened in October 2023 and can house up to 90 women and children at a time. “We are so thankful for everyone’s incredible support,” said Kate Alley, Executive Director of the LightHouse Women & Children’s Center. “Your help has made a huge difference in the lives of homeless women and children; we couldn’t have done it without you.”
