Olivet Begins Serving Free Dinners for Kids in the Kenhorst Area

Olivet Boys & Girls Club has begun distribution of grab-and-go dinner meals for children in the Kenhorst/ Governor Mifflin area. With the support of organizations, businesses and many individuals, Olivet Boys & Girls Club will produce and distribute one grab-and-go dinner meal per child each day, until supplies run out.

“We have risen to the challenge of the pandemic and the impact it has on the children of Berks County. Our team is doing ‘whatever it takes’ to serve and support the youth of Berks County and it shows in the innovation and adaptation by our team as we continue to serve Berks County every day,” said Chris Winters, President and CEO of Olivet Boys and Girls Club.

Olivet Boys & Girls staff and volunteers will be on hand at the Liberty Avenue side of the Kenhorst Borough Hall each weekday from 5:30-7pm beginning May 5th to distribute the bagged meals.

These meals are available to any child ages 3 to 18 in the Governor Mifflin and surrounding school districts. Parents are encouraged to drive their children to the distribution site, where the children will be given one bag per child.

All proper safety measures and CDC-required protocols will be adhered to and followed at the distribution site. Parents will be able to bring their children via vehicles, or by walking to the Liberty Avenue location in Kenhorst.

“Olivet Team members are actively addressing nutritional needs throughout our community by finding ways to make distribution sites like Kenhorst available to any child who may need a meal, through no fault of their own, as we continue to respond to COVID-19 throughout Berks County” said Winters.

“We are working with community partners, like the Borough of Kenhorst (allowing us to use their site), individual donors and organizations in a heart-felt collaborative effort to be sure every child has enough to eat,”
