Olivet Boys & Girls Club to host 5th Annual Leaders & Legends Dinner on March 2nd

Olivet Boys & Girls Club of Reading & Berks County will be hosting its’ 5th Annual Leaders & Legends Dinner on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at the DoubleTree Hotel beginning at 5:30 pm.

The event honors volunteers who have made an impact on Olivet youth and their families. This year, Olivet Boys & Girls Club will be honoring Pat and Bernie Donahue as Champions of Youth, and Berks Community Action Program as the Partner for Great Futures.

In addition to their volunteer tenure with Olivet Boys & Girls Club, both Pat and Bernie are very actively involved throughout the community. Bernie volunteers with the American Hellenic Education Progressive Association, Gust C. Kraras Chapter #61 which focuses on scholarships for students, and is also an active volunteer with Blankets of Hope. He is also a past board member of Hawk Mountain Council, BSA. Pat teaches Sunday School at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. She is a past member of the American Women’s Business Association and was a past board member of the Friends Board of Directors of Reading Health Systems, and the St. Xenia Philoptochos Society which supports many children foundations. She is also the originator of the local Parents with Young Children Organization at her church. During her tenure as a board member at Olivet Boys & Girls Club, Pat served as Secretary/Treasurer and also chaired the Strategic Plan Committee.

Berks Community Action Program (BCAP) is a non-profit organization serving over 2,500 individuals and families each year, providing services to low-income families and individuals including financial assistance, workforce development, family education, mentoring services, mortgage assistance and other services. BCAP has been a longstanding partner of Olivet Boys & Girls Club and has consistently supported the organization and collaborated on various projects, programs, and initiatives to benefit youth in the local community.

This year’s event will feature Master of Ceremonies, Christ Kraras, and guest speaker, Ross Tucker, former NFL player, and current broadcaster, motivational speaker, and entrepreneur. Proceeds from the event, and the Fund A Need auction led by Dick Henry, will support the Send a Kid to Camp campaign. Each summer, more than 1000 children throughout Reading and Berks County attend summer camp at the seven Clubs, which includes recreational opportunities at Blue Mountain Camp in Hamburg and the Clinton Street Pool in addition to programming where kids enjoy arts and crafts, theater, dance, and much more. No child is turned away from attending camp because of financial restrictions.
