As football season kicks off and fall weather sets in, police officers across Berks County are increasing enforcement efforts aimed at keeping roads safe.
According to the North Central Regional DUI Enforcement Program, officers will be focusing on two priorities in the weeks ahead: child passenger safety and removing impaired drivers from local roadways. Authorities anticipate higher alcohol consumption and potential drug-related impairment during the end-of-summer weekends and seasonal gatherings.
Police will conduct both Roving Patrols and Sobriety Checkpoints on area roads to identify and apprehend impaired drivers. Officials emphasized that the goal is to make highways safer for all travelers.
“The message is simple: drive safely and use designated drivers,” the program stated.
The North Central Regional DUI Enforcement Program equips, funds, and coordinates municipal DUI enforcement across multiple counties, including Berks, Northumberland, Schuylkill, Snyder, Union, Columbia, Montour, Monroe, Clinton, Carbon, Susquehanna, Wayne, Wyoming, and Pike.
These operations are supported by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
