Frozen food stored directly on floor in stand up freezer area: Restaurant Inspections, February 20, 2026

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On February 11, 2026, El Unico Restaurant Inc., located at 923 Exeter Street, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed prepped food stored directly on the floor in walk in refrigerator area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the food prep area. The handwash sink in the food prep area does not have single use towels, continuous towels, or air drying device. Hand wash sink at serving line is clogged, also no paper towels, soap or signage. Commercially processed ready to eat food, located in the stand up cooler, and held more than 48 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened.

On February 11, 2026, Cafe Folino, located at 951 Hill Road, Wyomissing, was inspected and found with the following violations: Two vents and the ceiling surrounding the vents at the cookline/prep area of the food facility was observed with excessive dust build up and in need of cleaning. Food facility does not have available quat sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.

On February 12, 2026, Stampede Smokin BBQ, located at 4372 Morgantown Road, Mohnton, was inspected and found with the following violations: Meat Rub/Spices ingredients storage containers, in the processing area, is not labeled with the common name of the food. -Corrected-On-Site. Food facility preparing a variety of vacuum-packed meats using reduced oxygen packaging without the required written procedures and HACCP plan. Observed an accumulation of residue on the non-food contact surfaces of the soda dispensing machine in the seating area.

On February 12, 2026, Rise Up Nutrition, located at 715 Penn Avenue, West Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed dried residue on some surfaces of one of the mixer units. Corrected.

On February 12, 2026, Original Mama’s Pizza, located at 1814 State Hill Road, Wyomissing, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed an accumulation of dirt/food debris/grease on the floor between the grill and fryers.

On February 12, 2026, La Alta Gracia Grocery, located at 1100 Chestnut Street, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Ceiling tiles in store need to be replaced.

On February 12, 2026, Catering by John Lowe, located at 4629 Morgantown Road, Mohnton, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed mold-like substance on the non-food contact surface of the ice machine. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the walk-in cooler, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Mixed sex toilet room is not provided with a covered waste receptacle for sanitary napkins.

On February 12, 2026, Boyer’s Food Market #3580, located at 408 Park Road, Fleetwood, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed fryer and rotisserie oven in the bakery/deli area, with an accumulation of dust, grease, food residue, and debris on non-food contact surfaces. Food facility does not have available quat sanitizer test strips at the bakery three compartment sink or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Deli slicers in the deli area are not being cleaned every 4 hours. Please ensure that these are being cleaned at a 4-hour frequency. Observed deeply scored cutting boards in the deli that are not resurfaced or discarded as required. Floor behind the fryer in the deli/bakery area was observed with excessive grease and debris build up and in need of cleaning. Wall behind the rotisserie oven in the deli area was observed with excessive dust build up and in need of cleaning. Fan guards in the meat prep room were observed with excessive dust build up and in need of cleaning.

On February 13, 2026, Samir’s Exxon, located at 1000 North Park Road, Wyomissing, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed liquid spills on the floor under the shelving units in the walk-in cooler. The lower wall area under the left side of the 3-compartment sink is deteriorated (there are holes and discoloration).

On February 13, 2026, Reading Country Club, located at 5311 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not have available method to verify the final rinse temperature for the hot water sanitizing dishwasher in the banquet kitchen. Metal tumblers being used to dispense drink ice at the bar. All were replaced with scoops with handles. Chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing dishwasher was 0 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required. Corrected immediately. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the bar area. Corrected.

On February 13, 2026, Mandarin Wok, located at 2906 St. Lawrence Avenue, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violations: An open employee’s beverage container was observed in the kitchen food preparation area. Corrected. Observed an accumulation of dirt/debris on the floor and some shelving throughout the kitchen and dry storage areas. A working thermometer for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in the 2-door refrigeration unit in the kitchen. Food facility inspection indicates evidence of rodent and insect activity in the kitchen areas. Facility may need to increase the frequency of their pest control program.

On February 17, 2026, Zaytoon Kabob & Grill, located at 760 Woodland Road, Wyomissing, was inspected and found with the following violations: There is an accumulation of dust/dirt on the condenser fan covers in the walk-in cooler. Working container (spray bottle) in front area, used for storing cleaner taken from bulk supply, was not marked with the common name of the product. Corrected.

On February 17, 2026, Wongs Kitchen LLC, located at 835-5 Hiester Lane, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violations: Commercially processed ready to eat food, located in the bain marie, and held more than 48 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened.

On February 17, 2026, Max Butcher Shop, located at 835-3 Hiester Lane, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violations: No sign or poster posted at the handwash sink in the prep area to remind food employees to wash their hands. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the prep area. Commercially processed ready to eat food, located in the deli counter, and held more than 48 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Observed frozen food stored directly on the floor in stand up freezer area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required.

On February 17, 2026, Dollar General Store #30127, located at 835 State Street, Mertztown, was inspected and found with the following violations: Drinking water used in the food facility is not from an approved source, such as a public water system or an approved non-public water system. Water fountain will remain off until DEP gives approval of the well system, and water is verified as potable.

On February 17, 2026, Cottage Bakery & Cafe, located at 236 W Main Street, Kutztown, was inspected and found with the following violations: Eggs held at 56 °F, in the baking area, rather than 45°F or below as required. Corrected, put back into the refrigerator. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the cookline area. Corrected.

On February 18, 2026, The Post, located at 2747 Bernville Road, Leesport, was inspected and found with the following violations: Lights are not shielded or shatter proof in the kitchen area near the ice machine.

On February 18, 2026, Russo Foods and Market, located at 1150 Bern Road, Wyomissing, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired and is no longer valid. Thermometer for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in the True refrigerator (pastry) in the side room. Corrected. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed water leaking at the handwash sinks in the deli and kitchen areas. Some prepackaged items in the retail store area are not labeled with an ingredient statement.

On February 18, 2026, Mark’s Sandwich Shop, located at 123 W. Main Street, Kutztown, was inspected and found with the following violations: Shelf below the grill was observed with excessive food debris build up. Increase the frequency of this item to avoid accumulation. Exterior left side of the fryer was observed with excessive debris build up and in need of cleaning.

On February 18, 2026, Horace M. Kieffer American Legion Post #625, located at 120 E. Arch Street, Fleetwood, was inspected and found with the following violations: Shelf below grill was observed with excessive debris build up. Floor below the grill was observed with excessive food debris and grease build up. Please increase the frequency of cleaning for this area. Potato dicer was observed with food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Please ensure that this dicer is cleaned after each use. Corrected. Spout that holds the beverage gun at the bar was observed with pink mold. Please increase the frequency that this item is cleaned to avoid build up. Corrected.
