Observed rodent droppings and dead cockroach in kitchen area: Restaurant Inspections, March 5, 2026

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On 2/24/2026, Sandstone Acres, located at 67 Bowmansville Rd, Mohnton, PA 19540, was inspected and found with the following violation: Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed the handwash sink in the processing room to be leaking at the base of drain on the sink. Observed the wash conveyor to have chipped paint and rust. Observed the rubber flap on the conveyor to be ripped in multiple places. Refrigerated ready-to-eat time/temperature control for safety food repackaged by the food facility, was being datemarked with a sell by, use by or discard by date that was beyond the manufacturer’s original date. Three 1/2 gallons of raw milk offered for sale past the sell by date. Corrected.

On 2/24/2026, Sabor Dominicano, located at 300 N 11th St, Reading, PA 19604, was inspected and found with the following violation: Hand wash sink needs to be repaired, water constantly dripping. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the food prep area.

On 2/24/2026, Morgantown Beverage, located at 3740 Main St, Morgantown, PA 19543, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed the nonfood contact surface of the middle slushie machines to have an apparent mold build up.

On 2/24/2026, Jade Garden, located at 450 W Lancaster Ave, Shillington, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violation: Facility is listed as out of compliance. Multiple foods in the kitchen area, Bain Marie and cookline refrigerator stored open with no covering. Corrected. Multiple foods were held at 42-44°F, in the Bain Marie area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Foods are served raw or undercooked to the customer’s request; however, a written consumer advisory (on the menu, table tent, or placard) is not provided to the consumer. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the Bain Maries, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the multiple refrigerators, is not being date marked. Corrected. Multiple food ingredients storage containers, in the cook area, is not labeled with the common name of the food. Observed a cracked and broken food container in the walk-in freezer that is not easily cleanable or safe for contact with food. Corrected. The handwash sink in the cook area was blocked by multiple items and not accessible at all times for employee use. Corrected. Observed a plastic soda bottle crate being used in the red refrigerator being used to hold food, this is a non-food contact surface. Corrected. Food utensils in rice cooking area observed stored in a container of water which is not maintained at 135°F. Corrected. Observed single use takeout containers not stored inverted to protect from overhead contamination. Corrected. Observed multiple foods stored directly on the floor in walk-in freezer area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Corrected. Food facility is reusing equipment (metal cans), which is intended to be a single-service or single-use article. Observed no chemical sanitizer being used on equipment and utensils after washing and rinsing them, and prior to use. Corrected.

On 2/24/2026, Heritage of Green Hills Health Care Bldg, located at 400 Tranquility Ln, Reading, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed the nonfood contact surfaces of the milk machine to have a buildup of old food residue. Corrected. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the refrigerator on the cook line, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Corrected. Multiple foods, a refrigerated, ready to eat time temperature control for safety food in the front service area, was date-marked by the facility, but was beyond the 7 day use or sell by date and requires discarding. Corrected.

On 2/24/2026, Anyeli Deli & Grocery, located at 1059 Buttonwood St, Reading, PA 19604, was inspected and found with the following violation: Commercially processed ready to eat food, located in the deli counter, and held more than 48 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened.

On 2/24/2026, 15th & Cotton Food Mart, located at 1521 Cotton St, Reading, PA 19602, was inspected and found with the following violation: Handwash sink was being used to wash dishes inside of it. Frozen Food in the freezer area stored open with no covering.

On 2/25/2026, West Brew Izakaya Ramen & Bar, located at 424 Penn Ave, West Reading, PA 19611, was inspected and found with the following violation: The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view.

On 2/25/2026, Tipico Criollo Restaurant LLC, located at 963 N 11th St, Reading, PA 19604, was inspected and found with the following violation: Frozen Food in the deep freezer area stored open with no covering. Observed fruits, vegetables and all meats thrown all on top of another in the deep freezer with no protection or separation. Commercially processed ready to eat food, located in the pastry cooler, and held more than 48 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Mops are not being hung to air dry.

On 2/25/2026, The Barn at Walnut Grove Inc, located at 813 Old Rt 22, Lenhartsville, PA 19534, was inspected and found with the following violation: Three knives on the knife rack were observed to have food residue and were not clean to sight and touch. Corrected.

On 2/25/2026, Gourmand Cafe (Wyo), located at 945 Berkshire Blvd Ste 103, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: Faucet at the 3-compartment sink is in need of repair.

On 2/25/2026, Camillo’s Italian Restaurant and Bar, located at 264 Greenwich St, Kutztown, PA 19530, was inspected and found with the following violation: Time in lieu of temperature being used in the food facility to control ready to eat potentially hazardous foods without written procedures or documentation to verify disposition of food. Food facility does not have available quat sanitizer test strips or quat test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.

On 2/26/2026, Wawa #8179, located at 10 Bernville Rd, Robesonia, PA 19551, was inspected and found with the following violation: Time in lieu of temperature being used as a control for potentially hazardous foods, but 2 bagel sandwiches and 9 bagel melts were expired from their time marking and were still in the hot hold units at the cash registers. Corrected.

On 2/26/2026, Titi Grocery LLC, located at 1101 N 11th St, Reading, PA 19604, was inspected and found with the following violation: Frozen Food in the freezer area stored open with no covering. Outdated milk located in the cooler. Food preparation counter, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. The handwash sink in the food prep area was blocked by personal items and not accessible at all times for employee use. The overall cleanliness of counters, coolers and shelving need to be on more frequent cleaning routine.

On 2/26/2026, Stonersville Fire Company, located at 5580 Boyertown Pike, Birdsboro, PA 19508, was inspected and found with the following violation: Thermometer for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in the white refrigerator in the kitchen. Corrected.

On 2/26/2026, Smucker’s Farm Fresh Poultry, located at 845 Woodland Rd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: Some prepackaged food items in the customer self-serve freezer are not labeled with the ingredients.

On 2/26/2026, Pike Township Sportsmen’s Association, located at 860 Hill Church Rd, Oley, PA 19547, was inspected and found with the following violation: There is an accumulation of grease/dirt/old food debris on the floor under some of the kitchen equipment. Take-out containers not stored inverted to protect the food contact surface. Corrected.

On 2/26/2026, Paparone’s Pizza Restaurant, located at 3803 Penn Ave, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violation: Top of the pizza oven a non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of excessive flour debris.

On 2/26/2026, Nino’s Pizza & Pasta, located at 840 Park Rd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: A food employee was observed making a sandwich – a ready to eat food – with bare hands. Corrected. The interior of the ice machine, a food contact surface, was observed to have residue and was not clean to sight and touch.

On 2/26/2026, New Great China, located at 2675 Shillington Rd, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violation: Hood vent filters are observed with excessive grease and debris build up and in need of cleaning. Please increase the frequency that you clean the hood vent filters. Several food containers not cooling were observed uncovered in the walk-in cooler. Corrected. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the walk-in cooler, is not being date marked.

On 2/26/2026, Mission Washoku, located at 10 S Summit Ave, Shillington, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violation: The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Multiple foods in the buffet area stored open with no covering. Corrected. Raw shell-eggs stored above ready to eat food in the refrigerator. sliced cheese in the buffet area was held at 58.7°F, in the buffet area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Multiple RTE foods in dining area were held at 50°F, rather than 41°F or below as required. Ingredient storage containers, in the refrigerator, is not labeled with the common name of the food. Observed cooked chicken stored on the prep table not following correct cooling time and temperature procedures held at 58°F intended for hot-hold. Food facility is reusing equipment which is intended to be a single-service or single-use article. Self-serve utensils being used in contact with sliced RTE oranges food without being properly cleaned and sanitized prior to use. Corrected. Observed wet wiping cloths in ware wash area, not being stored in sanitizer solution. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located throughout the facility, is not being date marked. Observed clean food equipment and/or utensils in processing area, stored wet in a manner that does not allow for draining and/or air drying (wet nesting). Observed multiple food ingredients stored directly on the floor in the processing area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view.

On 2/26/2026, Little Caesars, located at 502 Lancaster Ave, Shillington, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violation: BBQ sauce in the front prep area stored open with no covering. Storage racks for trays in walk-ins hand a buildup of old food residue. Multiple food ingredient storage containers, in the prep area, is not labeled with the common name of the food. Observed clean food equipment and/or utensils in warewashing area, stored wet in a manner that does not allow for draining and/or air drying (wet nesting). Food facility inspection indicates evidence of rodents/insect activity throughout the facility, but facility does have a pest control program. Observed apparent rodent droppings and one dead cockroach in the kitchen area of the facility. Firm has a pest control service.

On 2/26/2026, Dairy Queen #13176, located at 820 Kenhorst Plz, Kenhorst, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food employees observed in ware-wash area and cake decorating area, wearing jewelry on hands or arms. Non-Food Contact surface of the soda machine not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Food dispensing utensil in parmesan cheese stored inside the food container without the ability to close and seal the container. Food items were held at 44°F, in the bain-marie, rather than 41°F or below as required.

On 3/2/2026, Star City Diner and Pizza Parlor, located at 600 Shoemaker Ave, Shoemakersville, PA 19555, was inspected and found with the following violation: Knives were being stored between the cold hold units. This is not a cleanable surface. Knives were removed and cleaned. Corrected. The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of the PA Food Code as evidenced by incorrect responses to food safety questions. Soup was not cooled from 135°F to 70°F in 2 hours and/or from 135°F to 41°F within 6 hours, after preparation. Corrected, soup is being reheated to 165°F and will be put into the walk in cooler. Observed cases of food stored directly on the floor in dry storage area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Walls in the dry storage area are not sealed to provide a smooth, non-absorbent, easily cleanable surface. Food in the walk-in freezer and refrigerator area stored open with no covering. Corrected. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the refrigerators and walk in cooler, is not being date marked. Non-food contact surfaces of shelving not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of food debris. Please increase the frequency of cleaning the shelves in the pizza prep area and the kitchen. Floor area of the food facility was observed with excessive debris in the pizza preparation area and in need of cleaning. Mops are not being hung to air dry. Corrected.

On 3/3/2026, Giant Food Store #6486, located at 15100 Kutztown Rd, Kutztown, PA 19530, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed 3 cases of food covered with frozen condensation in the walk-in freezer. Please lay trays on top shelf to collect condensation and prevent dripping onto cases of food. Fruit flies observed on the walls and ceiling of the deli prep area. Mops are not being hung to air dry. Mop holder was observed broken. Corrected. Mop inverted to allow for draining. Non-food contact surfaces of fan guards in the chicken breading walk-in cooler not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of flour and debris. The handwash sinks located in the meat department and deli prep area do not have water at a temperature of at least 85°F.

On 3/4/2026, McDonald’s #27056, located at 1188 Ben Franklin W Hwy, Douglassville, PA 19518, was inspected and found with the following violation: Mops are not being hung to air dry. Corrected. Floor and coving in the hallway outside of the walk-in made of tile and grout and is cracked / roughened / and is not a smooth, easily cleanable surface. Floor and coving need to be repaired. Ice dispenser nozzle at the soda machine was observed to have black organic residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected.

Several other restaurants were inspected during this time period with no violations reported: Trinity Bible Fellowship Church in Blandon, Fleetwood Area SD Willow Creek Elementary in Fleetwood, Brandywine Heights SD Elementary School in Topton, Winnie’s Tea Bar in West Reading, Wert’s Beverages LLC in Topton, Spice Lady in Leesport, Kutztown SD Greenwich Elementary in Lenhartsville, Tulpehocken SD Bernville Elementary in Bernville, Burger King #0282 in Reading, Rita’s of Kutztown in Kutztown, and Hissho Sushi @ Giant #6486 in Kutztown.
