The Salvation Army Reading Corps is accepting applications for its annual Angel Tree Program until October 31, 2022. The Salvation Army Angel Tree program helps provide Christmas gifts for children ages 12 and younger in Berks County each year.
Once a child has been registered and accepted as an Angel, their Christmas wish list is shared with donors in the community who purchase gifts of new clothing and toys.
The program also accepts seniors that come to the Reading Corps as referrals from other agencies.
“The Salvation Army Christmas Angel Tree Program helps many needy families and children” said Lieutenant Hector Cid, Corps Officer, The Salvation Army Reading Corps. “We aim to bring this little beacon of hope to families we know are facing so many challenges in our city. We must do the best possible to ensure our children in Reading have a bright and blessed Christmas.”
The program has served residents of Reading for more than 45 years. Since the beginning of the month, more than 900 people have registered. The last in-person sign-up will be on Monday, Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
To apply for Christmas assistance, individuals must bring a photo ID, social security cards for all household members, proof of all household income over the previous 30 days, birth certificates for children 12 and younger and one utility bill, lease agreement or rent receipt to verify their address.
