The Pennsylvania Commonwealth Financing Authority Board announced grants to municipalities as part of its Local Share Account (LSA) program which provides for distribution of gaming revenues to support projects in the public interest within Berks County. As a recipient, South Heidelberg Township will receive $93,924 in grant funding to purchase a police SUV with licence plate reader technology.
The grant will fund the purchase of a 2025 Ford Police SUV with a full upfit including the purchase of and installation of a radio, mobile computer terminal and a permanently affixed Automated Licence Plate Reader (ALPR). The new Police SUV will be used as part of the South Heidelberg Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Detail.
“The Berks LSA Grant provides a vital funding source for our Police Department as due to our policing model the SHPD is not eligable for most grant programs.” said Township Manager Sean A. McKee. “The Police SUV upfitted with ALPR will be used as part of the department’s Traffic Enforcement Detail and allows the Township to continue to provide first class police services to our citizens and the citizens of the communities we serve.”
South Heidelberg Township was one of 16 municipalities in Berks County to receive grant funding for this round of Berks LSA Grants. The Berks LSA total grant awards were $1,275,895.
“The Township would like to thank Senator Chris Gebhard and Representative Eric Weaknecht for their support of the Township’s grant submission and their continued support of South Heidelberg Township and the surrounding communities they serve!” said Township Manager Sean A. McKee.
