Racers from 13 states set to compete in Duryea Hillclimb August 16-17

High-speed action will return to Reading later this month as racers from 13 states, spanning from New Hampshire to Florida, compete in the annual Duryea Hillclimb on August 16-17.

First run in 1951, the Duryea Hillclimb is part of the Pennsylvania Hillclimb Association (PHA) Championship Series. The event is sanctioned by the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and hosted by the local Blue Mountain Region SCCA.

Current course record holder Ron Moreck, of Kingston, Pa., will be back to defend his title against a field that includes several previous winners hoping to reclaim the “King of the Hill” honor.

The 2.2-mile course begins at the intersection of Duryea Drive and 13th Street Extension and ends on Skyline Drive at the William Penn Memorial Fire Tower. Racing is scheduled to start at approximately 9:15 a.m. on Saturday and run until about 4:30 p.m. Sunday’s action begins around 9 a.m. and continues until about 4 p.m.

Admission is by voluntary donation, with proceeds benefiting Pagoda-Skyline, Inc. A shuttle bus will operate both days, transporting spectators to the Fire Tower and designated viewing areas. Shuttle donations will benefit the Third and Spruce Reading Recreation Center.
