Bridge repair, daytime work, brush cutting: PennDOT upcoming roadwork January 5, 2026

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced several upcoming road work projects across Berks County as part of its District 5 maintenance schedule. All work is weather dependent, with rain expected to cause delays, and motorists should anticipate daytime restrictions and possible travel delays.

In Greenwich Township, PennDOT maintenance crews will perform brush cutting along Dunkels Church Road between Crystal Cave Road and Kohler Hill Road. Work is scheduled from Monday, Jan. 5 through Friday, Jan. 9, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Lane restrictions with flagging will be in place, and drivers should expect delays while traveling through the work zone.

In Bethel Township, brush cutting is planned along Interstate 78 between the Lebanon County line and Exit 23 (Shartlesville). The work will take place from Jan. 5 through Jan. 8, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Shoulder restrictions will be in effect, and motorists are advised to use caution while crews are working.

Also in Bethel Township, PennDOT crews will conduct brush cutting on PA Route 645 between the Schuylkill County line and Pine Grove Road. This work is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 9, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with shoulder restrictions in place during the operation.

In Greenwich Township, additional daytime work is planned on PA Route 737 (Krumsville Road) between PA Route 143 and Pine Grove Road. Maintenance activities are scheduled from Jan. 5 through Jan. 9, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Lane restrictions with flagging will be in effect, and drivers should expect delays in the area.

In Reading and Cumru Township, bridge repair work will take place along U.S. Route 422 between Penn Street and Interstate 176. Crews will be working at various locations throughout the week from Jan. 5 through Jan. 9, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Lane restrictions are expected, and motorists are urged to allow extra travel time and use caution through the work zones.

PennDOT reminds drivers to remain alert in work zones, follow posted signage, and be prepared for changing traffic patterns during maintenance operations.
