The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and Bridging Pennsylvania Constructors (BPC) have announced upcoming lane closures on Interstate 78 as work continues on the Lenhartsville Bridge Replacement Project.
The right lane of I-78 westbound will be closed between October 30 and November 7 to accommodate ramp reconstruction at Exit 35 (PA 143).
As part of the project, ramps C (off-ramp) and D (on-ramp) at Exit 35 were closed on October 19 at 9 p.m. and will remain closed through November 7.
Detour routes have been established:
I-78 westbound to PA 143 (approx. 10.4 miles): Exit at 30 (Hamburg), follow PA 61 south, take the ramp to I-78 eastbound, then use Exit 35 (PA 143/Lenhartsville).
PA 143 to I-78 westbound (approx. 5.4 miles): Take the ramp to I-78 eastbound from PA 143, exit at 40 (PA 737/Krumsville), head north on PA 737, then take the ramp to I-78 westbound.
Motorists are urged to follow posted detour signs, allow extra travel time, and use caution in the work zone. PennDOT noted that project coordinators will continue working with local emergency management services to maintain safe access during construction.
The bridge replacement is part of PennDOT’s Major Bridges P3 Program. Bridging Pennsylvania Developers – I (BPD-I), led by Shikun & Binui Ltd. and Macquarie Capital, oversees the project with design and construction carried out by Bridging Pennsylvania Constructors (BPC). BPC includes S&B USA Construction, FCC Construction, the H&K Group, Kokosing Construction Company, Wagman Heavy Civil, and Michael Baker International as lead designer.
