Motorists traveling along Interstate 78 should expect lane restrictions beginning this week as work continues on the Lenhartsville Bridge Replacement Project.
PennDOT and Bridging Pennsylvania Constructors (BPC) announced the right lane of I-78 westbound will be closed starting Tuesday, October 29, at 9 p.m., pending weather conditions. The lane restriction is scheduled to remain in place through Thursday, November 6, at 6 a.m. to allow for ramp reconstruction. The closure was originally planned for a later date but has been moved up by one day.
As part of the ongoing project, ramps C, the off-ramp, and D, the on-ramp, at Exit 35 were closed on October 19 at 9 p.m. and will remain shut down through November 6 at 6 a.m.
A detour is in place for motorists heading westbound to PA 143, which follows a 10.4-mile route using Exit 30 at Hamburg, PA 61 south, I-78 eastbound, and then Exit 35 at Lenhartsville. Drivers traveling from PA 143 to I-78 westbound are directed to a 5.4-mile detour that uses I-78 eastbound, Exit 40 at Krumsville, PA 737 north, and the ramp to I-78 westbound.
PennDOT is urging drivers to allow extra travel time, follow posted detour signs, and use caution in the work zone. The agency said it continues to coordinate with local emergency management services throughout the project.
The bridge replacement is part of PennDOT’s Major Bridges Public-Private Partnership (P3) Program. Bridging Pennsylvania Developers–I is overseeing the effort, led by Shikun & Binui Ltd and Macquarie Capital. The Bridging Pennsylvania Constructors joint venture includes S&B USA Construction, FCC Construction, and subcontractors such as the H&K Group, Kokosing Construction, Wagman Heavy Civil, and lead designer Michael Baker International.
