The Reading School District has temporarily closed two of its elementary schools due to COVID-19 cases among students and staff.
13th and Union Elementary was closed Wednesday, April 28 and Thursday, April 29. Glenside Elementary is scheduled to be closed Thursday, April 29 and Friday, April 30.
The district says both schools closed due to the number of COVID-positive cases based on the size of building.
During the building closures, students will learn remotely at home, and all in-person activities have been suspended. The schools are scheduled to reopen for students and activities on Monday, May 3.
In addition, district officials say meal distribution will not be held at Glenside Elementary on Friday, April 30. Families can receive meal boxes at RKAA-Glenside Campus from 9-3pm.
13th and Union Elementary families can receive meal boxes at 12th and Marion Elementary or Northeast Middle School from 9-3pm Friday.
At Glenside Elementary, 2 COVID-positive cases among staff and students were reported within a rolling 14-day period.
13th and Union Elementary has reported 4 COVID-positive cases among staff and students reporting within a rolling 14-day period.
In both schools, officials say all close contacts have been identified and ordered to quarantine, where appropriate; and the Department of Health has been notified.
The district added that families not notified by district Health Services Department have not been in close contact with the positive cases.
