UPDATE 8pm: RAWA crews onsite say the water main repair will take at least until Thursday afternoon, including main repair and road resurfacing. A 36 inch main ruptured earlier this afternoon in Muhlenberg Township, causing both lanes to flood with water.
For those wondering, this is not the same line water main that broke weeks ago. Officials tell us, generally speaking, there are two 36in mains that run on the either side of Route 61, left and right. This was the other main, not on the same water line.
Original Post: A large water main break has closed the 3900 block of Pottsville Pike (Route 61) in Muhlenberg Township Wednesday afternoon.
The break occurred just after 2pm, causing a large hole to open in the middle of the road.
The road is closed both directions between Reading Crest Avenue and Tuckerton Road.
According to RAWA, the Northeast section of the City of Reading is experiencing low or not water pressure.
This is a developing story. Check back for additional details.
