The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Berks County, in effect from 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through 2:00 a.m. Thursday. Forecasters warn that flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible during this time.
Another round of showers and thunderstorms is expected to move through the region Wednesday afternoon and evening, bringing the potential for heavy rain. With the ground already saturated from recent storms, it may not take much additional rainfall to trigger flooding.
Rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour are possible, increasing the risk of excessive runoff. According to the National Weather Service, flooding could occur in rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone locations. Urban and poor drainage areas are also at increased risk.
Residents are urged to monitor future forecasts and remain alert for potential Flood Warnings. Those living in flood-prone areas should be prepared to take action if flooding develops.
