The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Berks County, warning that multiple rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms could produce flash flooding from 10 a.m. Saturday through 2 a.m. Sunday.
Forecasters said excessive rainfall could lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas, with creeks and streams rising out of their banks. Urban areas and locations with poor drainage are also at risk of flooding.
According to the National Weather Service, storms on Saturday and Saturday night could produce 2 to 3 inches of rain in as little as one to two hours, creating conditions favorable for flash flooding.
A Flood Watch means conditions are favorable for flooding to develop but does not mean flooding is already occurring.
Residents are encouraged to closely monitor the latest weather forecasts and be prepared to take action if Flash Flood Warnings are issued.
Drivers should use caution during periods of heavy rain and never attempt to drive through flooded roadways, as water depth and road conditions may be difficult to judge.
The Flood Watch remains in effect for Berks County until 2 a.m. Sunday.
