The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Berks County and much of eastern Pennsylvania and central and northern New Jersey, effective from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 25.
Forecasters say heat index values — which measure how hot it feels when humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature — could reach up to 103 degrees.
The advisory includes the cities of Reading, Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, and others across southeastern Pennsylvania and parts of New Jersey.
The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity may lead to heat-related illnesses, especially for those spending extended time outdoors or without access to air conditioning.
The National Weather Service urges residents to stay hydrated, remain in air-conditioned environments when possible, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and check on elderly family members and neighbors.
Those working outdoors are advised to take frequent breaks in the shade or indoors. Heat stroke is a medical emergency; anyone experiencing symptoms should be moved to a cooler location and medical help should be sought immediately by calling 911.
The advisory is part of an extended stretch of summer heat affecting the region. Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and heat safety updates.
