Berks County is under a Heat Advisory from 11 a.m. Tuesday through 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. Heat index values could reach up to 103 degrees during this period, prompting warnings about potential health risks due to excessive heat and humidity.
The advisory includes several counties across eastern Pennsylvania, including Berks, Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon, Monroe, and parts of Chester County, as well as portions of New Jersey.
Officials are urging residents to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses. Suggested actions include staying hydrated, remaining in air-conditioned spaces, avoiding prolonged sun exposure, and checking on vulnerable neighbors and family members.
Outdoor workers and those spending time outside are encouraged to take frequent breaks in shaded or cool environments. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends adjusting work schedules and taking extra care to prevent heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
Anyone showing signs of heat-related illness should be moved to a cool area immediately. Heat stroke is a medical emergency, and 911 should be called without delay.
