In the book, Johnson shares his experiences and knowledge of teaching, educating, and mentoring accumulated over the years. He delves deep into the nuances of each aspect and offers practical advice to help aspiring entrepreneurs.

Johnson believes there are many keys to building a profitable business, but you have to open the right doors. This can be achieved by developing and applying the right mindset and skills.

Well, the two major things are, one, understand that it will not be easy. So people think, oh, I’m going to start a business. So, that’s number one. It’s not going to be easy. 90% of new businesses fail. The other thing is a needs assessment. Is there a need for it?

Johnson explained that starting a new business is a challenging thing in the world. There has to be a need for your company and its purpose.

One of the key takeaways from Johnson’s book is the importance of building relationships. He stresses the significance of creating lasting connections with your mentees, as this can create a ripple effect that extends far beyond the initial mentorship. Learning from those who have gone before you can be valuable in avoiding common pitfalls and accelerating your growth.

”That’s part of me giving back. So I think what happens is, and I talk about in the book, you leave the ladder down for others who want to climb up,” Johnson said.

”I’ve been blessed and fortunate. I share the mentors who shared their knowledge with you, and it was up to me to do it. They didn’t have to do that.”

Creating a successful business requires a combination of factors, including a precise and innovative business idea. Other factors are a strong business plan, effective execution, adaptability to changing circumstances, and a client-focused approach. It’s essential to have a competent team with diverse skill sets, a shared vision, and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement. Successful businesses prioritize quality, efficiency, and profitability while maintaining ethical and sustainable practices.

”Everything’s constantly changing. In today’s world, if you can’t adjust to how things are, you might set yourself up for failure,” Johnson said, explaining how if a business can’t adjust to the times, it might not be open for much longer.

Furthermore, Johnson outlines that to be a successful entrepreneur in his book, you must go where your clients are.

Understanding your business’s needs means taking the time to listen. Being present in these places allows you to build relationships with potential clients and establish yourself as a trusted leader in your industry. Entrepreneurship may pose challenges at times, but it can yield immeasurable rewards, both personally and professionally. Therefore, it is worth considering as a career path for those who are willing to take on the challenges.

On May 21, 2023, Johnson will be honored at the Reading Distinguished and Gifted Scholarship and Awards Gala, which supports 2022 and 2023 Reading High School graduates continuing their education and highlights local community leaders.
