BARTA Bus Fare Restructuring, Increase, Schedule Change Begins Monday

In October, the South Central Transit Authority (SCTA) announced approved changes for BARTA bus fares. The new fare and route changes begin Monday, January 4, 2021. SCTA also approved to eliminate zones and to adjust pass prices for better customer savings when customers purchase prepaid passes.

The cash fare will increase $0.10 to $1.80. The Adult 10 Ride Pass price will be adjusted to $13.50. The Adult 31 Day Pass will be adjusted to $45.00.

Base student cash fare is set at $1.00. Students in grades 1 through 12. Student must show School ID to be eligible for Student fare.

1/2 Fare Cash Fares $.90. 1/2 Fare Program is for eligible Persons with Disabilities. Must have 1/2 Fare ID card to receive 1/2 fare.

No charge for transfers. Customers will still need to request a transfer slip to use on the second bus when completing their trip but will not be charged for it.

All Day Passes $3.70 and will still be available for purchase when boarding any BARTA bus. The on-board price will remain $4.00.

10 Ride Passes. Adult 10 Ride Pass $13.50. Student 10 Ride Pass $9.00
Student in grades 1 through 12. Student must show School ID every time they ride.

New passes for 1/2 Fare 10 Ride Adult Pass is $6.75. Customers with a Half Fare ID Card can purchase 10 Ride passes at half the price.

Adults can ride anywhere with a 31 Day Pass for $45.00. Student can ride anywhere with 31 Day Pass $20.00.

Park-N-Ride Passes are approved to eliminate the Park-N-Ride Pass due to low usage.

Route Changes

Route 8: Reiffton/Shelbourne Square/Birdsboro is modified to serve Godiva on Neversink Road on certain trips and adjust Saturday and Sunday schedule to improve on-time performance.

Route 16: Broadcasting Square is modified to serve the VA Outpatient Clinic on all trips and eliminate the “By Request Only” option. The bus route will serve the VA Outpatient Clinic on weekdays and on trips from 7:15am – 4:30pm when the clinic is open.

Route 18: Schuylkill Avenue will serve Tower Behavioral Health Center in evenings when the Route 17 – Glenside/Airport/Berks Heim bus route ends service to the health center. Trips to service Tower Behavioral Health Center on Route 18 will be available in the evenings during weekdays only.
