After two years of construction, residents, community leaders, and elected officials gathered on the 1800 block of North 11th street in Reading for the grand opening and ribbon cutting on Humane Pennsylvania’s Freedom Center for Animal Life-Saving.
Formerly known as The Lindy Scholar Center, The Freedom Center for Animal Life-Saving will ensure the continued success of traditional aspects of Humane Pennsylvania’s community work, including sheltering homeless and stray pets, reuniting them with owners, and finding them new forever homes.
The Center will also be the hub for Humane Pennsylvania’s cutting-edge original programs, like the Healthy Pets Initiative, which brings together a constellation of services and supports to do more, for more animals, faster and more effectively than ever.
Karel Minor, Chief Executive Office of Humane Pennsylvania credits the new building to the generosity of the Giorgi Family Foundation. The foundation provided Humane PA with a $3.2 Million dollar grant in support of the creation of the organizations Healthy Pets initiative.
The Giorgi Family Foundation was established in the spring of 2016, following the loss of patriarch Fred Giorgi. The foundation focuses on initiatives including arts and sciences, animal welfare, to improving human services.
Located at 1801 North 11th Street in Reading, the ribbon cutting ceremony was followed by a small outdoor festival with live music, food and tours of the new building.
