Pennsylvania American Water announced Tuesday the utility will be upgrading approximately 1,350 feet of water main in Amity Township to improve reliability for customers, reduce service disruptions, and increase water flows for firefighting.
The cost of the system improvements, which replace water main dating back to the 1960s, is $425,000.
The project is expected to began this week, which includes replacing existing small-diameter pipe with new 8-inch ductile iron main along Nicholson Avenue between Lake Drive and Briarwood Drive. Crews will work weekdays between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction.
PA American Water expects to complete the water main installation and connect all customer service lines to the new main by the end of August. Final restoration and paving are scheduled to be completed later this fall.
During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water, and/or lower than normal water pressure.
