R-BAR’s annual 5K Run for Shelter returns this October

The Reading-Berks Association of REALTORS will host its 6th annual 5K Run for Shelter on Saturday, October 4, at Gring’s Mill Recreation Area. The event raises funds for two local nonprofit housing organizations: Habitat for Humanity of Berks County and Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Berks, Inc.

Open to both runners and walkers, the course follows the Union Canal Trail along the Tulpehocken Creek, with a turnaround point at Stonecliffe Recreation Area. The flat terrain offers an accessible route for participants of all skill levels. The race will be held rain or shine and is professionally timed through a partnership with Pretzel City Sports.

The schedule includes race-day registration beginning at 8:00 a.m., with the 5K start at 9:00 a.m. and an awards ceremony to follow at 10:00 a.m. Awards will be given to top finishers overall and in various age groups, ranging from under 14 to 70 and older.

Early registration is available through September 1 for $20 and includes a race t-shirt. After that date, registration increases to $25 while supplies last. Parking, refreshments, and music will also be available at the event.
