The Green Building Alliance (GBA) will host a free public event on water conservation Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. in Reading City Council Chambers at City Hall.
Part of the organization’s Resilient Reading initiative, the roundtable will focus on best practices for conserving water, detecting leaks, and improving efficiency in commercial and residential settings. The event is open to sustainability leaders, commercial building owners, and community members interested in reducing water waste and promoting resilient infrastructure in Reading.
Speakers will include Bill Murray, executive director of the Reading Area Water Authority, and Bethany Ayers Fisher, sustainability manager for the City of Reading Public Works Department.
Attendees will learn how to read their water bill, gain insight into how potable water reaches local taps, explore strategies for reducing water use, and connect with the Resilient Reading team. The session will also highlight GBA’s work in Reading and provide networking opportunities.
“Resilient Reading Roundtables bring topics to the community designed to educate, inspire, and provide examples of how building for resiliency enables communities to thrive,” said Ashley DiGregorio, GBA senior director of energy and community. “This month, we want to emphasize the importance of conserving water through smart, forward-thinking practices in efficient plumbing fixtures, landscaping, and operations. In every community, water is a vital resource, and who better to lead by example than Reading Area Water Authority, as the greater Reading area has experienced prolonged drought conditions in the past year and knows the importance of changing practices to use water as efficiently as possible.”
The event is free to attend, but registration is encouraged at www.gba.org/events. More information is available by emailing info@gba.org.
