The Berks County West Nile Virus Program will conduct a truck-mounted mosquito control operation in parts of Union Township on Wednesday, August 6, beginning around 8:30 p.m.
The spray will target the Union Township Recreational Area and nearby residential streets, including East Linden Street, George Street, Union Street, Mount Airy Road, Washington Street, Garey Road, Lanie Drive, East 4th Street, Jeffery Place, and Cory’s Court. Both residential and recreational areas will be treated to reduce adult mosquito populations.
County officials said high numbers of nuisance mosquitoes and those capable of transmitting West Nile virus have been detected in the area.
The Berks County Conservation District will apply the treatment using a truck-mounted ultra-low volume (ULV) sprayer. The product, Aqua Duet, will be applied at a rate of less than one ounce per acre and is designed to provide quick knockdown and effective control of adult mosquitoes.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain indoors while the spraying is taking place. Weather or other unforeseen circumstances could delay or postpone the operation, with a rain date set for Monday, August 11.
For more information, residents may contact the Berks County Conservation District at 610-372-4657, Ext. 216.
