The American Red Cross is providing support to dozens of residents after a multi-apartment building fire broke out Wednesday morning along North Fifth Street in Reading.
According to the Pennsylvania Rivers Chapter of the Red Cross, the Disaster Action Team responded to the scene shortly after the fire and opened a temporary evacuation center to assist those displaced. The organization reported that 38 people — including 28 adults and 10 children — have received aid so far.
Volunteers are offering comfort, care, and resources to the residents impacted. In the days ahead, Red Cross caseworkers will work with individuals and families to create personalized recovery plans and connect them with additional community resources.
“All Red Cross disaster assistance is free,” the chapter said in its announcement.
Anyone in need of support is encouraged to call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
