Lace up your sneakers because Reading Hospital Road Run returns to West Reading on Sunday, Oct. 18, to support Reading Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
For 159 years, Reading Hospital has been the heartbeat of Berks County, caring for generations of families through life’s most vulnerable moments. As the busiest single-site emergency department in Pennsylvania and the region’s only Level I Trauma Center, the hospital provides lifesaving care when every second matters.
Funds raised through this year’s Road Run will support a planned expansion of the ED to improve patient flow and add 19 new ICU beds. This investment will help Reading Hospital keep pace with the region’s growing demand for emergency and critical care services.
“Every dollar raised through Road Run will go directly back into the care we provide our neighbors,” said Charles F. Barbera, MD, president and CEO of Reading Hospital. “Our Emergency Department is one of the busiest in Pennsylvania. It’s the front door to critical care for nearly 500,000 residents in Berks County. These initiatives will allow us to enhance our ability to provide timely, seamless care for those who need it most.”
Runners, walkers, and community members of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in one of the Road Run events, which include a 5K (3.1 miles), Half Marathon (13.1 miles) and Fun Run/Walk (approximately one mile).
Attendees are also encouraged to enjoy food from local food trucks, participate in family-friendly activities and visit the hospital resource tables at the event.
