Reading native achieves Navy career milestone

Reading, Pennsylvania native Phillip Eberly advanced to the rank of senior chief petty officer in the United States Navy September 9 during a promotion ceremony at the Washington Navy Yard, home to the United States Navy Band, where he serves. As an E-8, Eberly joins an elite list of less than 2% of Sailors to achieve this career milestone.

After winning a national audition and completing basic training, Eberly joined the Navy Band in Washington, D.C., in 2008 as a euphonium instrumentalist in the Concert Band. In 2013 he was appointed to principal euphonium. Prior to joining the Navy, Eberly won first-place in the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium competition and was a finalist in the International Tuba Euphonium Association Artist solo competition.
