The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On 8/13/2026, Shillington Social Quarters, located at 38 S. Sterly St., Shillington, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violation: The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Raw chicken stored above potatoes in refrigerator. Raw chicken in the refrigerator area stored open with no covering.
On 8/13/2026, Reading Country Club, located at 5311 Perkiomen Ave., Reading, PA 19606, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed an accumulation of debris on the floor under some of the shelving and equipment in some areas of the main kitchen and banquet kitchen. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration for the dishwasher and 3-compartment sink in the main kitchen. Outer door located in the main kitchen area of the food facility has a gap at the bottom and does not protect against the entry of pests. New door sweeps were ordered and will be installed soon. Interior of the walk-in freezer has a significant buildup of frost. A new door has been ordered for this unit.
On 8/13/2026, Meraki Manor, located at 1405 Old River Rd., Birdsboro, PA 19508, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed an accumulation of grease and old food debris on the floor under the fryer and small stove. An open employee’s beverage container was observed in the side room food preparation area. Corrected. Scoop at the ice machine in the basement is stored in a dirty container. Corrected. The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view.
On 8/13/2026, McDonald’s #5155, located at 6176 Morgantown Rd., Morgantown, PA 19543, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed clean dish racks stored on the floor in the ware wash area. Corrected. Food employees observed in the fryer area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Corrected. Nonfood contact surfaces of the milkshake machine and ice machine observed to have a buildup of apparent slime and old food residue. Corrected.
On 8/13/2026, Arby’s #7601, located at 700 Crossings Blvd., Elverson, PA 19520, was inspected and found with the following violation: The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view. Multiple foods were held at 46-56 °F, in the cold hold unit in the prep line area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Corrected. Food moved to walk-in cooler. Employee personal items (coats, purses and lunch) stored on top of clean food equipment. Corrected. Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in cold hold unit on prep line. Corrected. Mops are not being hung to air dry. Corrected.
On 8/15/2026, Popeye’s, located at 3229 N. 5th Street Hwy., Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violation: Biscuits were held at 45.1°F, in the biscuit refrigerator, rather than 41°F or below as required.
On 8/15/2026, NorteSur Mexican Restaurant, located at 2610 Kutztown Rd., Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violation: Several food items in the walk-in refrigerator area stored open with no covering. Observed soiled wiping cloth on bain marie cutting board. No sanitizing solution/bucket in use. Thermometers for ensuring proper temperatures of food are not available or readily accessible. Potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 48 hours, located in the walk-in refrigerator is not being date marked. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink and paper towels were not available in the food prep area.
On 8/15/2026, Haiku Hibachi & Sushi, located at 3215 N. 5th Street Hwy., Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food dispensing utensil in tempura bin observed stored in the food and not with handle above the top of the food. Crock pot carrots held at 105.5°F rather than 135°F or above as required. Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in bain marie and glass door refrigerator.
On 8/17/2026, Island Pizza, located at 3060 Limekiln Rd., Birdsboro, PA 19508, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed an accumulation of grease and old food debris on the floor (along the wall) under the fryers/equipment at the cooking line.
On 8/18/2026, Plaza Azteca, located at 100 Anna Ave., Suite 456, Blandon, PA 19510, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed fish filets thawing in a pan with water with a temperature of 75 degrees sitting at room temperature until no longer frozen to the touch, which is not proper slacking procedure. Corrected discarded. Cooked rice was held at 96 °F, in the hot hold unit area, rather than 135°F or above as required. Corrected and discarded. Ambient air and water temperature measuring device for ensuring proper food storage in walk-in cooler, is not accurate to +/- 3°F. Please put a working thermometer inside the walk-in cooler. Interior kick plate of the ice machine was observed with black organic matter. Please increase the cleaning frequency of this item to avoid build up. Floor drain in the bar area was observed with slime build up and in need of cleaning. Corrected and cleaned.
On 8/18/2026, G&J Pizzeria & Bakery, located at 504 Main St., Blandon, PA 19510, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed clean food utensils in utensil storage area, not inverted.
On 8/18/2026, Bruno’s Pizza Restaurant, located at 4340 Perkiomen Ave., Reading, PA 19606, was inspected and found with the following violation: There is a significant amount of standing water in the bottom of one of the beer coolers behind the bar. The soda gun at the bar, a food contact surface, was observed to have residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected.
On 8/19/2026, Zaytoon Kabob & Grill, located at 760 Woodland Rd., Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: White countertop covering in the front area is starting to deteriorate and is no longer non-absorbent, easily cleanable. Back door of the food facility has a gap at the bottom and does not properly protect against the entry of pests.
On 8/19/2026, Dollar Tree #09013, located at 1040 Berkshire Blvd., Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed cases of frozen food stored directly on the floor in the walk-in freezer area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required.
On 8/19/2026, Cushion Peak Rod & Gun Club, located at 180 Vinemont Rd., Reinholds, PA 17569, was inspected and found with the following violation: Interior of ice machine at the bar was observed with pink organic matter and not clean to sight. Please increase the frequency of cleaning to avoid build up.
