The Kutztown Borough Police Department is inviting residents to lend a hand this holiday season during its “Fill the Cruiser Challenge” food drive on Sunday, November 16, 2025.
The department’s goal is to fill a police cruiser to the roof with nonperishable food donations for Friend Inc. Community Services, a nonprofit that provides food assistance and family support throughout northeastern Berks County.
Officers will collect donations at two local grocery stores: Weis Markets (Kutztown Road): 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Giant: 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Those unable to attend on Sunday can still contribute by dropping off items at the Kutztown Police Department lobby from Monday, November 10, through Friday, November 14, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
“Our officers see firsthand how much need there is in the community, especially as we head into the holidays,” said Chief Paul M. Clery. “We’re proud to partner with Friend Inc. to help ensure that no family in our area goes without food this season.”
All donations will go directly to Friend Inc. to restock its food pantry and assist local families in need. The department encourages residents, families, and businesses to drop off items such as canned goods, pasta, rice, cereal, and other shelf-stable products.
