PA Lottery presents commemorative check to $1M Powerball winner in Exeter Township

Officials from the Pennsylvania Lottery and GIANT, a Lottery retailer, today presented a commemorative check to the winner of a recent $1 million Powerball ticket, which was sold for the Saturday, November 1 drawing. The check presentation was held at GIANT, 4655 Perkiomen Avenue, Exeter Township, where the $1 million-winning ticket was sold. The retailer will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The lucky winner, Debbie Truckermiller of Berks County, said she occasionally plays Powerball, especially when the jackpot gets high. At that time, the Powerball jackpot stood at an estimated annuity worth $400 million, or $190.7 million cash.

“I was there doing some grocery shopping,” said Truckermiller. “I didn’t find out I won until Monday, November 3!”

Truckermiller said she was washing the dishes when she thought to check her ticket to find out if it was a winner.

“I saw something on Facebook that our local TV station had posted and thought, ‘Oh, I should check my ticket!’” said Truckermiller. “I immediately yelled for my husband! I was jumping up and down and he kept saying, ‘Give me a minute, let me find my glasses.’”

After it sunk in, they called their two adult children to share the good news.

“I think we’ll help them pay off some student loans, do some renovations, vacation, and invest,” said Truckermiller, who said she works in the finance industry. “We love to travel and go to sporting events. Our favorite football team is the Eagles, of course!”

“Congratulations to Debbie and her family on this exciting win,” said Secretary of Revenue Pat Browne. “We often say that when you play, our seniors win because every Lottery ticket sold helps fund vital programs that support older Pennsylvanians. We’re very proud of the fact that our Lottery has generated more than $37.2 billion to benefit older Pennsylvanians since we sold our very first ticket in 1972.”

“On behalf of the Pennsylvania Lottery, we’re thrilled to celebrate Debbie’s win,” said Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko. “During the season of giving, we’re proud to see how Lottery proceeds help provide meals, transportation, and essential services for seniors.”

Truckermiller’s ticket matched five of the five white balls drawn, 2-26-43-44-62, but not the red Powerball 22, to win $1 million, less applicable withholding.

More than 36,600 other PA Lottery Powerball tickets won prizes of various amounts in the November 1 drawing, including more than 8,100 tickets purchased with Power Play and more than 4,800 tickets purchased with Double Play®. Players should check every ticket, every time.

The Powerball jackpot rolled to an estimated annuity value of $546 million, or $255 million cash, for the next drawing on Saturday, November 15.

To determine if they have won a prize, players can review the ticket, scan it at a Lottery retailer or use the ticket checker feature on the Lottery’s Official App. Winners should immediately sign the back of the ticket, call the Lottery at 1-800-692-7481 and make an appointment to file a claim at the nearest Lottery office.

Powerball tickets can also be purchased on palottery.com, along with Mega Millions, Cash4Life, Treasure Hunt, Match 6 and the PICK family of games.
