South Heidelberg Police launch high-visibility traffic enforcement effort

The South Heidelberg Police Department has announced a new high-visibility traffic enforcement initiative aimed at deterring dangerous driving and improving roadway safety throughout its coverage area.

The department said the effort, which began this week, will include an immediate and noticeable increase in patrol officers and marked police vehicles across key roadways. The approach is designed as a concentrated enforcement surge, not a routine patrol expansion, with the goal of reducing high-risk driving behaviors.

According to police, the initiative focuses on two primary objectives: deterring aggressive or unsafe driving and improving overall compliance with the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code. Enforcement will target areas identified through crash data, resident complaints, and known patterns of violations.

Officers will prioritize violations linked to serious or fatal crashes, including aggressive driving, speeding—particularly in school zones and residential neighborhoods—seat belt violations, distracted driving, impaired driving, and failure to obey stop signs and traffic signals.

The department emphasized that the effort is a partnership with the community and relies on motorists operating their vehicles responsibly. The initiative covers South Heidelberg Township, Wernersville Borough, Robesonia Borough, and Heidelberg Township.

Drivers can report traffic concerns or request extra patrols through the department’s CrimeWatch page. Police said results of the enforcement surge will be shared on CrimeWatch and social media in the coming weeks and months.

Questions about the initiative may be directed to Chief Hook at mhook@sheidpd.org.
