Two New York men were taken into custody early Monday morning following an attempted theft involving U.S. mail at a St. Lawrence Borough post office, according to Central Berks Regional Police.
Police said officers were dispatched around the early morning hours of Dec. 15, 2025, to a report of suspicious individuals and a vehicle at the United States Postal Service facility located at 3115 St. Lawrence Ave.
When officers arrived, the suspects fled the area. Police reported observing footprints in the snow leading to an exterior mailbox, which appeared to have been tampered with.
As patrol units arrived, an officer observed a suspect vehicle traveling west on St. Lawrence Avenue toward the City of Reading. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to stop, leading to a brief pursuit. The pursuit ended at the intersection of 10th and Penn streets, where the vehicle crashed into parked cars.
Police said the suspects fled on foot but were quickly located hiding nearby and taken into custody without incident. The individuals were identified as Joshua Ramos, of New York, N.Y., and Jared Rodriguez, of the Bronx, New York.
During the investigation, officers recovered hundreds of pieces of U.S. mail, along with washed checks and currency. Ramos and Rodriguez were transported to Berks County Prison, where they are currently being held.
Central Berks Regional Police credited a vigilant caller who reported the suspicious activity to 911, noting that the call played a key role in the arrests.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
