Winter Storm Watch issued for Berks; 4 to 6 inches of snow possible Friday into Saturday

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Berks County, warning that hazardous winter weather could impact the area from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning.

According to the alert, heavy mixed precipitation is possible during this period, with snow accumulations between 4 and 6 inches and ice accumulations of up to two-tenths of an inch. The watch includes portions of east-central, northeast, and southeast Pennsylvania.

Forecasters said the developing system could lead to very difficult travel conditions, particularly during the Friday evening commute, when snow and ice may combine to make roads slick and visibility poor.

Residents are urged to closely monitor updated forecasts as the storm approaches, as conditions and snowfall totals could change. The National Weather Service advises people to consider delaying travel if possible. Those who must be on the road are encouraged to use extreme caution and prepare for winter driving conditions.

Officials recommend carrying a winter storm kit that includes items such as tire chains, jumper cables, a flashlight, a shovel, blankets, extra clothing, water, and a first aid kit in case of becoming stranded.
