The Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) has announced the appointment of Robert C. Farina as Director of the Office of Professional Learning, effective July 1, 2026.
Mr. Farina’s appointment was approved by the BCIU Board of Directors following a comprehensive search and interview process. He succeeds Dr. Dan Richards, who will retire on August 3, 2026, after more than 13 years of service to the organization.
Prior to joining the BCIU, Mr. Farina served as Assistant to the Superintendent in the Brandywine Heights Area School District. In this role, he led district-wide professional learning, supported curriculum development, oversaw federal programs, and guided strategic planning initiatives.
Earlier in his career, he served as Curriculum Supervisor and Intermediate/Middle School Principal, where he led building-level professional learning efforts. He was also recognized as Berks County Middle School Principal of the Year.
“Mr. Farina’s experience in instructional leadership, professional learning, and strategic planning, along with his collaborative leadership style and school district experience, positions him well to lead the Office of Professional Learning,” said Dr. Jill Hackman, Executive Director of the BCIU.
Mr. Farina will work alongside Dr. Richards in the coming weeks to support a smooth leadership transition and ensure continuity of services to BCIU member schools and community partners.
The Office of Professional Learning provides leadership in the design and delivery of professional development, coaching, and educator support services for schools throughout Berks County.
