State Police have released preliminary details following a multi-vehicle crash that occurred Saturday morning, January 17, on Interstate 78 amid snow covered road conditions in Greenwich Township.
According to police, the crash involved 12 vehicles at mile marker 39.1 and was reported around 7:51 a.m. The incident included four commercial vehicles and eight passenger vehicles, with some occupants initially trapped inside their vehicles. Emergency crews responded to the scene to assist with extrication, and towing operations were conducted as damaged vehicles were removed from the roadway.
Injuries remain unknown at this time, and police said the information released is preliminary.
Interstate 78 was closed in both directions for several hours while crews worked at the scene, with traffic detoured onto Old Route 22. State Police later confirmed that both eastbound and westbound lanes have since reopened.
Drivers are urged to continue using caution as winter weather conditions persist and road conditions may remain hazardous.
