Route 143 to close overnight next week for I-78 Lenhartsville Bridge work

Route 143 will be closed for one night next week as part of the ongoing I-78 Lenhartsville Bridge Replacement Project, PennDOT and Bridging Pennsylvania Constructors (BPC) announced.

According to PennDOT District 5, the contractor plans to close and detour Route 143 on Tuesday, Feb. 10, to allow crews to perform bridge demolition activities. The closure is expected to run from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., weather permitting.

After the overnight shutdown, Route 143 will remain an active work zone for two additional nights. During that period, traffic will be restricted to a single lane while crews complete remaining work related to the demolition phase.

PennDOT said motorists should expect delays and plan for extra travel time.

During the full closure, northbound Route 143 traffic will be detoured onto I-78 westbound to Exit 30 (Hamburg), then back onto I-78 eastbound to Exit 35 (Lenhartsville), a 10.1-mile detour.

Southbound Route 143 traffic will be routed onto I-78 eastbound to Exit 40 (Krumsville), then back onto I-78 westbound to Exit 35 (Lenhartsville), a 10.5-mile detour.

Drivers are urged to follow posted detour signage.

The work is part of PennDOT’s Major Bridges P3 Program, a public-private partnership aimed at replacing or rehabilitating several aging bridges across the state. The Lenhartsville Bridge project is being delivered by Bridging Pennsylvania Developers – I, led by Shikun & Binui Ltd and Macquarie Capital, with construction being carried out by the Bridging Pennsylvania Constructors joint venture.
