Reading Parking Authority announces temporary garage access ahead of winter storm

The Reading Parking Authority announced temporary parking accommodations ahead of an approaching winter storm, aimed at supporting snow removal efforts and maintaining public safety across the city.

According to the authority, the measures are being implemented in coordination with the City of Reading, Mayor Eddie Moran’s Office, and the Department of Public Works.

All city-owned parking garages will be open and available for public use beginning Sunday, Feb. 22 at 9 a.m. through Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 7 a.m. Officials said the temporary access is intended to reduce on-street parking, allowing Public Works crews to more safely and efficiently clear roadways during the storm.

The accommodation applies only to parking garages. Surface parking lots are not included in the temporary access plan.

The authority also announced that the 6th and Cherry parking lot will be reserved exclusively for approved emergency vehicles during the same period. The lot will not be open to the public in order to support emergency response operations throughout the storm.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the available garages and help keep streets clear to assist plowing and emergency services.

The Reading Parking Authority thanked the public for its cooperation as it works with city partners to keep Reading safe during inclement weather. Officials said updates will be provided as conditions evolve.
