Nearly one year ago, Robert Eisenhower of Bernville underwent life-saving heart surgery at Reading Hospital after his valve dissolved – a situation his wife, Brenda, described as “very close to the end.”
Thanks to the skill and quick actions of Dr. Brian McCauley and the cardiac care team, Eisenhower received transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) surgery, which is a minimally invasive procedure that replaces a failing heart valve without the need for open-heart surgery.
Now, he is back to celebrating the moments his heart lives for: hunting and going on cruises with Brenda.
On Thursday, Feb. 19, Reading Hospital welcomed Eisenhower back, just one day before the anniversary of his procedure. In an emotional reunion, he thanked the cardiac team that helped save his life.
“If it wouldn’t have been for Dr. McCauley and his team, I would not be here today,” Robert Eisenhower said. “I am so grateful he never gave up on me. For me, the TAVR surgery is the best way to go if you can. It gave me my life back.”
