A 71-year-old Reading woman died Friday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle along State Hill Road in Wyomissing, according to the Wyomissing Police Department.
Police said the crash occurred around 1:15 p.m. on March 6 at the entrance to the Berkshire Square Shopping Center. Officers responding to the scene found Eugenia Polonski, 71, of Reading, who had been struck by a 2015 Lexus SUV driven by Margo Lemke of Molina, Illinois.
Polonski was transported to Reading Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries, police said.
The Pennsylvania State Police Accident Reconstruction Team assisted with the investigation. During the response and investigation, State Hill Road was closed between Berkshire Boulevard and Colony Drive. The roadway reopened at approximately 4 p.m.
Following consultation with the Berks County District Attorney’s Office, Lemke was cited for violating Section 3323(b) of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code, which covers duties at stop signs. Police said Lemke appeared before Magisterial District Judge David Yoch and pleaded guilty to the offense.
The Wyomissing Police Department was assisted at the scene by the West Reading and Spring Township police departments, the Wyomissing Fire Department, Western Berks EMS, and fire police from multiple jurisdictions.
“The Wyomissing Police Department remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community and encourages everyone to remain vigilant while either walking or driving upon the roadways,” the department said in a statement.
