A 46-year-old man from Carlisle died early Thursday morning following a crash on Interstate 78 in Berks County, according to Pennsylvania State Police and the Berks County Coroner’s Office.
The crash occurred around 4:45 a.m. on March 19, 2026, on I-78 eastbound near mile marker 34.2 in Windsor Township, just west of Exit 35 (Lenhartsville), state police said.
According to investigators, a vehicle traveling eastbound struck the rear of another vehicle in the warning area approaching a work zone. The driver of the striking vehicle sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Berks County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as John Wayne Boring, 46, of Carlisle. Officials said he was operating a 2020 Ford F-150 when it collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer traveling in the same direction.
Coroner Matthew J. Stitzel pronounced Boring deceased at 5:48 a.m.
The cause and manner of death remain under investigation.
Both vehicles involved in the crash were towed from the scene. Emergency responders from the Hamburg Fire Company and Kempton Fire Company assisted at the scene.
Pennsylvania State Police in Hamburg continue to investigate the incident.
