Reading launches Online Rental License Application System, PMI adjusts hours to better serve owners

The City of Reading’s Property Maintenance Inspection (PMI) Office has transitioned to a new online system for annual rental property license applications, replacing the previous paper-based process to improve efficiency, accuracy, and security.

In the first ten days of the 2026 application cycle, PMI processed 831 applications for 781 properties—marking a significant improvement compared to last year, when paper applications were still awaiting review and deposit at the same point.

While some property owners have experienced challenges adjusting to the new system, particularly those with complex cases or multiple properties, the City is committed to providing assistance to ensure a smooth transition.

To better support applicants, Mayor Moran has approved the PMI office to be closed to the public daily from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. from April 1, 2026 through May 15, 2026 to allow staff time to review and assist with applications. Regular hours will resume afterward.

For assistance, property owners are encouraged to contact the City Service Center at 1-877-727-3234
