The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On 4/3/2026, Saigon Banh Mi, located at 5464 Perkiomen Ave, Reading, PA 19606, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed in-use knife/cleaver stored between table edges, an area not easily cleaned & sanitized. Corrected. Observed some food items stored directly on the floor in the dry storage room, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required.
On 4/3/2026, Dieffenbach’s Potato Chips, located at 51 Host Rd, Womelsdorf, PA 19567, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed cases of food stored directly on the floor in the storage area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required.
On 4/3/2026, Dairy Queen #11100, located at 5710 Perkiomen Ave, Reading, PA 19606, was inspected and found with the following violation: Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the kitchen area. Corrected.
On 4/3/2026, Carruso’z Pizza Shop, located at 7656 Lancaster Ave, Mount Aetna, PA 19544, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not have available chlorine sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate chlorine sanitizer concentration. Working containers in prep area, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.
On 4/3/2026, 501 Grill and Tavern at Sunoco, located at 7632 Lancaster Ave, Mount Aetna, PA 19544, was inspected and found with the following violation: Hood vent filter was observed with excessive grease build up and in need of cleaning. Food slicer, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Corrected. 2-quart sized Trumooo chocolate milk dated 3/27/26 and 6 quart sized Trumoo chocolate milk dated 4/2/26 were observed in the reach in cooler on the sales floor. Corrected. Observed refrigerator equipment, in prep area, with an accumulation of food residue on non-food contact surfaces. Corrected.
On 4/4/2026, McDonald’s of Temple, located at 5372 Allentown Pike, Temple, PA 19560, was inspected and found with the following violation: Chicken patty was held at 130.2°F, in the hold hold tray, rather than 135°F or above as required. Chicken was discarded and replaced on inspection.
On 4/4/2026, McDonald’s of Muhlenberg, located at 430 Elizabeth Ave, Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violation: Cold food was held at 47.1°F, in the undercounter refrigerator unit at burger prep area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Items removed from refrigerator, unit turned off and maintenance request submitted.
On 4/6/2026, Horning’s Market of Bethel, located at 8316 Lancaster Ave, Bethel, PA 19507, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed several cases of food stored directly on the floor in the warehouse area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Severely dented, distressed canned items observed in the sales floor area and intended for use or sale in the food facility. Corrected.
On 4/6/2026, Comalli Taqueria @ 619 Penn Ave, located at 619 Penn Ave, West Reading, PA 19611, was inspected and found with the following violation: Scoop being stored in the drink ice at the server station with the handle touching the ice. Corrected. Entrance door located in the back area of the food facility has a gap at the bottom and does not protect against the entry of pests.
On 4/6/2026, Boyertown Beverage/John Distributor, located at 51 2nd St, Boyertown, PA 19512, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed cases of beverages stored directly on the floor throughout the facility, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Observed dead mouse located behind the walk-ion-cooler. The back outer door located of the food facility has a gap and does not protect against the entry of pests.
On 4/6/2026, Arby’s #7143, located at 2741 Papermill Rd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: There is an accumulation of old food debris and trash under the food preparation station in the front area. Corrected. The corner of the wall in the mop sink area is damaged and is in need of repair.
On 4/6/2026, Arby’s #1878, located at 4901 Perkiomen Ave, Reading, PA 19606, was inspected and found with the following violation: Some of the caulking at the mop sink is deteriorated, creating a gap between the sink and the wall. Observed an accumulation of old food debris and trash on the floor under equipment in the front kitchen area.
On 4/7/2026, Misael Grocery 55001340, located at 134 W Oley St, Reading, PA 19601, was inspected and found with the following violation: Old food residue, dishes and utensils observed in the handwash sink, indicating uses other than handwashing. Potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 48 hours, located in the refrigerator, is not being date marked.
On 4/7/2026, Four Monkeys, located at 100 Constitution Blvd, Kutztown, PA 19530, was inspected and found with the following violation: The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view. Please display the certificate.
On 4/8/2026, The Joanna Store, located at 1102 Elverson Rd, Morgantown, PA 19543, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed 2 gallons of milk offered for sale past the sell by date of 4/3/26. Corrected.
On 4/8/2026, Sicilian Delite Pizzeria & Ristorante, located at 540 E Philadelphia Ave, Boyertown, PA 19512, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required.
On 4/8/2026, Little Sicily Italian Restaurant, located at 100 Love Rd, Reading, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violation: Facility listed as out of compliance. Food in the walk-in area and dry storage stored open with no covering. Corrected. Pasta Sauce and cheese were held at 109°F, in the hot hold area, rather than 135°F or above as required. Corrected. Observed single use containers throughout the facility not stored inverted to prevent contamination. Corrected. The light intensity in the food preparation area by the walk-in cooler is not at least 50 foot candles. Multiple food ingredient storage containers, in the service area, is not labeled with the common name of the food. Corrected. Old food residue, dishes and utensils observed in the handwash sink, indicating uses other than handwashing. Corrected. The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the kitchen area, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Corrected. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the Bain Marie, is not being date marked. Corrected. Observed two deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required.
On 4/8/2026, Giovanni’s Pizzeria, located at 1306 Reading Ave, Boyertown, PA 19512, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food employees observed in the cookline area, not wearing proper beard covers. Toilet rooms do not have a self-closing door. Observed walk-in-cooler door handle needs to be repaired due to it not locking completely.
On 4/8/2026, Applebee’s #3404, located at 1905 Ridgewood Rd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: There is an accumulation of numerous items on the floor under the shelving in the small dry storage room in the kitchen area. Corrected. Observed an accumulation of dirt and old food debris on the floor under equipment at the end of the bar. Floor tile(s) missing in the cooking area near the floor drain. This area is no longer smooth, easily cleanable and there is standing water in the damaged area. Back door located in the kitchen area of the food facility has a gap at the bottom and does not protect against the entry of pests.
